Google and Motorola have today announced the new Google Nexus 6, the latest smartphone in the “Pure Android” Nexus range. The Nexus 6 has a 5.96 inch Quad HD display, a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor and a 13MP camera with Optical Image Stabilisation.
The Nexus 6 will be one of the first handsets to run the newly announced Android Lollipop operating system (also known as Android L or Android 5.0). The new OS brings material design with improved notifications, more functionality and a redesigned core framework that ensures it is able to run smoothly on devices with just 512MB RAM and under 1GHz processors.
Luckily the Nexus 6 has no shortage of specs to worry about a smooth experience – other notable features include dual front facing stereo speakers, a 3220 mAh battery and either 32GB or 64GB internal storage. Like other Motorola devices, the Nexus 6 comes with Turbo Charging with a quick 15 minute charge (using the Turbo Charger included in the box) adding up to 6 hours additional battery life to your smartphone.
The biggest change with the Nexus 6 has to be the pricing – whilst previous Nexus devices have all had impressive specs that were cut back in a few places to favour the price, the Nexus 6 has all the bells and whistles and the price tag reflects this. The 32GB model has a starting cost of $649 in the USA (UK pricing is still to be confirmed) and there will be two colour variants – Midnight Blue and Cloud White.
The Nexus 6 will be sold in the same places as other Nexus models with your primary port of call being the Google Play Store. We’ll confirm when we hear more about the Nexus 6 pricing in the UK but the handset is set to land in late October/ early November.
